Which Fortnite Game to Play?

It’s not as simple as just loading Doom and blasting away.

Fortnite, created by Epic Games, is actually a collection of different games. There are “Battle Royale” games where you try to kill everyone else, “Creative” games where you build worlds, and a “Rocket Racing” game to race vehicles. There’s also a “Save the World” game but no one really knows what that’s about, since it costs money to play.

If you’re here, you want to kill. So you want to play one of the Battle Royale modes. You have two options here: Battle Royale, and Battle Royale Zero Build.

Builds vs. Zero Build

Fortnite’s oldest BR mode allowed you to build walls, ramps, and other structures while fighting. Building was a differentiating element of Fortnite vs other shooter games, and it can be argued that the combination of a BR mode and building is what made the game and company famous. Building adds a sophisticated strategy and gameplay element, and this was truly unique to see.

However, for many casual (and older) players, building was annoying. It adds a level of complication beyond the “just run around shooting people” element that many wanted. So in 2022, Fortnite added BR Zero Build. This removed the element of building from the game, and added the overshield.

I suspect most of you want to play Zero Builds. But if you want to play Builds, then you will need to adapt your strategy appropriately. The game modes are played differently, requiring different skills and strategy to succeed.

What about the Other Game modes?

There’s a creative mode in Fortnite that lets you create your own worlds. You can design those worlds however you want, and let others play in your worlds. There’s a tremendous amount of flexibility here; it’s truly amazing.

Some worlds are made to explore and hang out in a virtual space with others, no weapons. Others are specailized combad areas, such as shotgun-only arenas. There are also training worlds where you can enter to train your aim and movement skills.

If you’re like me, you don’t have time for that. You want to play, and get better through play. So pick Zero Builds Solos and let’s go.
