My Controller Settings

They could be yours, too.

If you followed my advice and got a controller with paddles on the back, you’ll be able to optimize your controls for better performance. This can give you a big advantage.

Here is a screenshot of my controller edit screen in the XBox settings:

The important part is how I assigned the paddles:

Which PaddleAssignmentWhat you can do
Right TopA (jump) buttonJump while aiming
Right BottomRight Thumbstick PressSlide while aiming
Left TopRight BumperSwitch weapon while still depressing the trigger.
Left BottomLeft Thumbstick PressSprint easily and
Rapidly switch car seats.

Being able to switch to your next weapon while not removing your finger from the trigger is extremely important. This one change alone will improve your reaction time and kill rate. That’s why putting it on the paddle is important, and also why you should sort your weapons in an order that matches how you want to select weapons as a battle evolves.

The last three items all give you the ability to aim, with the sticks, while using the paddles to do things that the sticks normally do. This is a huge deal. Want to be able to jump over people and shotgun them while in the air? Or want to jump and then land into a sprint, sliding by someone as you shoot at them the entire time? You need to keep your thumbs on the sticks to aim, which means you need paddles to press the other buttons

This is going to take some time to learn. The first week, you’re going to be mixing things up all the time. It will suck. Be patient. After a month, you’ll have muscle memory and will be doing great. It’s worth the time.
